A silver-mounted underglaze blue and polychrome-enamelled double-gourd vase, Wanli (1573-1619)
the lower section half of cylindrical form with flattened quatrelobed sides, surmounted by a globular lobe with a tall tapering neck, the lower section decorated with four panels enclosing a lady on a terrace, a scholar holding a fan in a landscape, foliate lingzhi sprays, and bamboo issuing from rockwork, the high shoulders with foliate and landscape panels, below the lobe with auspicious emblems amongst fire scrolls, the neck with stylised triangular lappets and cash motifs, Chinese silver collar and stopper -- overall 8½in. (21.6cm.) high
