Lot Essay

Lacquer boxes of this large lobed size are rare. Compare with a box of identical shape and very similar size depicting a scene of the 'hundred boys' at play sold at Christie's Hong Kong, 28 November 2006, lot 1699. The central scene is depicted on a smaller lobed box from the Estate of Dr. Ip Yee sold at Sotheby's Hong Kong, 19 November 1984, lot 120.
