Lear scrisse così di Alba sul suo diario 'la bellezza di Alba è placida e racchiusa in se stessa: la cittadina con torri e fattorie che si estendono lungo la valle e la pianura, dalle colline dove villaggi e paesini fioriscono intorno alla piccola capitale di questa semi-provincia. Sull'orizzonte si estende la prima catena delle Alpi, da cui spicca il Monviso'.
