A Central European ebony and gilt-brass quarter-striking table clock
Early 17th Century and later
The case with later domed top with spike finial, above two balustraded galleries, with spiral-twist columns with carved capitals to the corners, glazed panels within arched engraved silver frames to the sides, about plinth with projecting angles, inset to one side with a key drawer, raised on later paw feet, with engraved later silver dial dial with Roman hours and fully calibrated minute ring also showing quarter hours (overlaid on engraved plate with markings for former hour and quarter hour rings), two blued steel hands, the rear dial with chapter rings for hour and quarter hour striking, the brass posted frame one day movement secured in the case with two steel latches with back-to-back trains, fixed barrel for the going side and tandem barrel for the hour and quarter trains, now converted to verge pendulum escapement and hour and minute time indication (slot and calibration for former balance regulation to one side), countwheels for hours and quarter on two bells above; the movement and dial probably converted in the late 17th Century, the ebony case probably also later associated
