A German small fruitwood timepiece prünkuhr

The case with key drawer with ivory knob to the cornice, scroll side mounts with conforming mouldings, with inset spiral-twist columns, on six ringed bun feet, with ripple moulded frame to the 16 x 22 cm. (6¼ x 8½ in.) gilt brass dial with lightly punched decoration showing birds to the corners and flowers to the centre, pewter Roman chapter ring with inner concentric date ring, single blued steel hour hand and gilt-brass calendar hand, the one day movement with rectangular plates and raised front plate for the pivoted verge escapement and front-swinging pendulum, joined by four slender back-pinned baluster pillars, three spoke wheelwork, chain fusee with gearing to the back plate for indirect wind, the back plate signed Marcus Bohm/Augustae, with pierced and engraved cock to the set up ratchet

A telleruhr by Marcus Bohm, with similar front-swinging pendulum arrangement, was sold Sotheby's London, Good Clocks, Watches, Wristwatches and Barometers, 28 February 1991, lot 238.
Marcus Böhm (1650-1732) was sworn a member of the Clockmakers' Guild in 1702. He was one of the first Augsburg makers to use a front-swinging verge pendulum.
