COMPARATIVE LITERATURE:
J. Zeeman, De Nederlandse Stoelklok, Assen 1969, pp. 119-121
Dr. J.L. Sellink, Dutch Antique Domestic Clocks, Leiden 1973, pp. 230-239
This clock can be identified as a 'Leeuwarder Stoelklok' and falls into a separate category of Frisian 'stoel'clocks. It has all the Leeuwarder features as described by Zeeman: characteristically shaped and robust mermaids sawn out of the wooden backplate, sometimes repeated with lead mermaids flanking the dial; a date aperture, mostly combined with moonphase and sometimes full calendar; strike on two bells. There are also several clocks known which have double top plates.
