Lot Essay

Despite the traditional attribution to Aelbert Cuyp, Peter Schatborn suggests that this drawing is closer to van Goyen. The technique of the lower part of the sheet is similar to drawings executed by van Goyen in the 1640s. Both Cuyp and van Goyen were left-handed as was the author of this drawing. We are grateful to Peter Schatborn for his help.
