Echézeaux Grand Cru--Vintage 1992
Côte de Nuits. Domaine-bottled by Henri Jayer for George Jayer
Tasting Note: One of over 30 '92 burgundies at a Bibendum tasting in January 1994, and I fell for it, ordering it on the spot, since when, I have served it several times at lunches and dinners at home. Has it changed over the past nearly nine years? Having looked at my notebooks, the answer is, not much. It was sweet, powerful, marvellous, complete with good length and finish when tasted and the same still applies. Perhaps more mellow. The most detailed note was made at a dinner in 1997: only 13 alcohol though it seemed more, heady, spicy and a deft use of oak. A misleadingly unconvincing open-rimmed appearance, but that is common to many burgundies. A lovely wine. The real thing. Last noted Nov 2001 **** I shall continue to enjoy it. M.B.
