The fan case decorated with silk peony spray appliqués on a gold and black brocade ground; one purse embroidered in bright colors with a bold floral diaper pattern, the other purse of pale mustard-colored silk almost completely couched in fine gold and silver metallic thread as a chime suspended by a bat, with an auspicious symbol in the center and wan emblems to the sides, with yellow silk tassels

Lot Essay

The chime-form purse was not intended to carry anything, but was stuffed with cotton or raw silk that was highly perfumed.
