Lot Essay

The design on this dish relates closely to that of the preceding lot. Please see the note to that lot for further information. The cavetto found here is the same as on the blue and white dish already noted under that entry. The irregularity of the turquoise glaze, the shape of the foot and the design on the exterior all link this dish to one dated 873/1468-8 in the Oriental Art Museum, Rome (Lisa Golombek, Robert B. Mason and Gauvin A. Bailey, Tamerlane's Tableware, Costa Mesa and Ontario, 1996, pl.51 p.210, and col.pl.XI). They conclude that that dish most probably comes from Nishapur.
