Arabic manuscript on cream paper, 377ff. plus 5 fly-leaves, each folio with 13ll. of black naskh within panels outlined in gold, gold and polychrome rosettes between verses, catchwords, sura headings in white on gold ground with polychrome illumination, ashr marked in the margins in red and hizb in gold, juz and sajda marked with gold and polychrome medallions, opening bifolio illuminated in gold and polychrome, colophon signed and dated AH 1124, very minor staining, in brown morocco with flap and stamped floral medallion and spandrels, doublures with central gilt medallions

Lot Essay

The colophon signature reads 'Copied by 'Umar, known as the scribe of the Royal Palace' (saray-e 'amira) and is dated AH 1124 (1712-13 AD). Two other albums by the scribe are recorded in the Islamic Museum in Istanbul (Mehdi Bayani, ahval va asar-e khosh-nevisan, vol. IV, Teheran, 1358 sh., p. 116).
