OTTOMAN TURKEY, DATED AH 1292/1875-6 AD
On chess, Ottoman manuscript on thin paper, 24ff. plus 1 fly-leaf, each folio with a grid representing chess boards with boxes inscribed in red or black ink with the names of various pieces, the grids divided by a central panel of illumination around an empty cartouche, within gold, black and red margins and rules and gold outer rules, marginal notes in black naskh with important words and phrases picked out in red, occasional flowers drawn in the margins, last bifolio dated AH 1292 in the margin, occasional owners marks and stamps on the opening folios, final grid left empty, in brown morocco binding with gilt stamped borders
