Arabic manuscript of calligraphy, paper mounted on card, 13ff. each with 3ll. arranged within panels outlined with gold and polychrome rules, 2ll. of large black thuluth surrounding a smaller line of black naskh, gold and polychrome floral medallions between different letters or verses, opening folio with floral illumination, laid down between coloured or marbled margins on variously coloured gold-speckeled card with leather trim, final folio signed Mehmet al-Arif Shekizade and dated AH 1104, folios loose in binding, small repairs, areas of minor soiling, in maroon morocco with gold stamped borders

Lot Essay

This is an Ottoman album of practice calligraphy. It is signed 'The needy [of God] al-Sayyid Muhammad known as Shukrzada wrote it in the year 1014' (1692-93 AD). The scribe is unidentified.
