Lot Essay

This unusual depiction of a European lady can be comapred to a miniature of a European holding a bird on her raised hand attributed probably to late 18th century Bikaner (Indian Miniature Painting, exhibition catalogue, Madison, Wisconsin, 1971, no.185, pp.183-5). An almost identical composition was sold at Sotheby's New York, 14 November 2002, lot 22.
