A very similar chanfron is in the collection of the Furusiyya Art Foundation (Bashir Mohamed, The Arts of the Muslim Knight, Milan, 2007, no.330, p.344). That example like ours has the name of the ruler engraved across the forehead. Both inscriptions appear to be identical. Here it can be read clearer and demonstrates that both were made for, or at least at one stage were in the service of Sultan Muhammad Qutub Shah in Golconda (r.1612-1626 AD). The date on this chanfron is in the middle of his reign.
