Lot Essay

Whistleresque in concept and execution and with little impasto, there is an even film of paint throughout. Reflections was almost certainly painted in the mid to late 1930s, a time when Henry paid several visits to County Kerry and when the influence of his erstwhile teacher, James McNeill Whistler, resurfaced in his work. The background mountains therefore are probably the MacGillycuddy's Reeks.

The present work is listed as number 1220 by Dr Brian Kennedy.
