THREE GREEK TERRACOTTA APPLIQUÉS
CAMPANIAN, ARCHAIC PERIOD, CIRCA EARLY 5TH CENTURY B.C.
Mold-made, one in the form of a facing head of a Gorgon, a row of curling locks arching over her forehead, the wide mouth with fangs and protruding tongue; and two in the form of a facing head of Acheloös, each with the hair brushed forward, the locks terminating in snail curls, with lidded bulging eyes, thin high-arching brows merging with the bridge of the nose, the long flowing down-turned mustache overlapping the spade-shaped beard, one preserving traces of red pigment
