A CASED PAIR OF PERCUSSION OFFICER'S PISTOLS BY WHEELER & SON
CIRCA 1840
With signed browned twist octagonal sighted barrels, case-hardened breeches, platinum plugs, engraved case-hardened breech tangs, signed and engraved case-hardened back-action locks (the hammers repaired), figured walnut full stocks, chequered butts, horn fore-end caps, engraved blued trigger-guards with pineapple finials (refinished), white metal escutcheons, stirrup ramrods, and some original finish, Birmingham proof marks: in original lined and fitted brass-bound mahogany case (the lid and lock escutcheons each missing, one compartment loose), the lid with retailer's trade label of Vaughan & Cotterell, 'Silversmiths, Jewellers and Watch Makers, 39-40 Strand' (London), and with some accessories.
