Oblong 2o (573 x 650 mm). 5 engraved star charts (some occasional minor spotting to plates and text leaves). Contemporary green half roan, marbled boards (some rubbing and light wear). Provenance: Fürstliche Hofbibliothek Donauesschingen (library stamp on verso of title-page).

FIRST EDITION of Schwinck's rare star atlas, dedicated to the well-known German astronomer F.W. Bessel, who advised Schwinck on this work. Schwinck's atlas was considered more of a professional atlas than a popular atlas, with the location and intensity of different stars noted in black in the foreground and the constellations mapped out in lighter red in the background.
