THE CONVERSION OF SAINT PAUL, OIL ON CANVAS, WITHOUT STRETCHER, UNFRAMED, BY FRANS FRANCKEN II
Sale room notice
We are grateful to Mrs Ursula Haerting for confirming the attribution after examination of the picture, which she dates circa 1620-1630. Mrs Haerting finds that the painting is of great quality. She thinks that Frans Francken's brother, Ambrosius II, may have painted the three men carrying spears, in the background. Ambrosius died in 1632 ; that year would be a terminus ante quem for the painting. A certificate of authentication from Mrs. Ursula Haerting will accompany the present lot.
