Lot Essay
Chang has devoted his life to presenting traditional Korean themes associated with scholar-official painters. He was born in Kyungki-Do Province and studied under Kim Eun-Ho (1892-1979) from 1932 to 1940. In 1946, he became a professor at Seoul University of Fine Arts. His work was exhibited at the "Rome International" art exhibition in 1949. Chang traveled to the United States to exhibit his work at the Moo Sung Gallery in 1963, and at the Washington Square Gallery, in 1964. He won the Seoul Cultural Prize in 1959, and the Yesulwon Award in 1971. In 1965, he opened the Oriental Art School in Washington, D.C., dedicated to training young artists.
