Lot Essay

Jean-Baptiste Noualhier L'aîné is recorded at both Vincennes and at Sèvres as a flower painter 1753-1755 and again 1757-1766. His son, Jean-Baptiste-Etienne-Nicolas, followed in his footsteps and used a similar sprig as his mark. However, as he did not start his career until 1779, there can be no doubt that the mark on the present jug is that of the elder Nouhalier.
