The RAILMASTER, at the time of its launch, was aimed at professionals who worked near magnetic fields. The name was chosen to reflect Omega's long-standing relationship with the railways - in the early days of train travel, Omega timekeepers were preferred by many of the world's railways because of their high degree of precision.

The movement of the Railmaster is encased by a mu-metal cage that protects the movement to 1,000 Gauss. The model was revolutionary at the time, mainly because of the decision to use mu-metal, which was then unheard-of.
