Rectangular, 3 7/8 x 4 5/8 in. (92 x 117 mm.), ornate giltwood frame with foliate designs and oak leaves adorning the spandrels within hinged, green velvet-lined red leather travelling case
Provenance
A gift to Alleyne Fitzherbert, 1st Baron of St Helens (1753-1839) in March 1818 from Queen Charlotte.

Lot Essay

A rectangular glazed panel in the interior of the travelling case displays a piece of parchement inscribed with the words 'Sophia CHARLOTTE: Queen Consort of King George III born 19th May 1744 died 17th Novr. 1818 Given by Her Majesty to Lord St Helens. March 1818'.
