Lot Essay

We are grateful to Professor Lorenz Eitner who confirmed the attribution on the basis of a photograph in a letter dated 14 May 2001. Professer Eitner dated the drawing to circa 1820 and noted a similar drawing of perhaps the same dog which was formerly in the collection of Maurice Gobin (see Galerie Maurice Gobin, Dessins, aquarelle et gouaches par Gericault, exhib. cat., Paris, 1935, no. 52).
