We are grateful to Prof. Ugo Ruggeri for suggesting the attribution to Francesco Rosa (private communication, 6 December 2008). The present painting is comparable with Judith with the head of Holofernes by Rosa in the Musée des Beaux-Arts, Marseille (see M. Lucco, La pittura nel Veneto: Il Seicento, Milan, 2001, p.564, fig. 660).
