A RARE LARGE ALTERED JADE TAOTIE MASK PENDANT
SHANG DYNASTY, ANYANG PHASE, CIRCA 1200-1100 BC
Of shield shape, one side carved in double lines with a cicada-like body in the triangular lower section below a nose, eyes and brows flanked by ears, all below an irregular conical hole positioned below a chevron crest flanked by the pair of horns, the reverse similarly carved in single lines except for the eyes, the stone now opaque and of dark ivory color; together with a small altered jade ge, Shang dynasty, the blade tapering towards the edges, the tang with a conical hole, the opaque stone of buff color
