FREUD, Sigmund (1856-1939). Autograph letter signed ('Freud') to Dr Else Meidner, Grundlsee, 12 August 1930, 2 pages, 8vo, envelope; with an English translation.

AN ATTACK ON AN OPPONENT OF PSYCHOANALYSIS. Meidner's letter 'breathes well-meaning and love of truth', but Charles Maylan, about whom she asks, is a bad case; Freud met him 'when I was at the disposal of everyone who wanted something from me', but he was taken out of analysis in Berlin as 'too abnormal and by character unsuitable'; his book [Freuds tragischer Komplex: eine Analyse der Psychoanalyse (1929)] is 'a form of revenge but also an attempt at cheap fame' ('Ihr Brief athmet ...
