ARIOSTO, Lodovico (1474-1533). Orlando Furioso. Venice: G.A. Valvassore, 1553. 8° (155 x 102mm). Title within engraved border, engraved vignettes throughout (faint dampstain in the top margin). Contemporary mottled calf, edges red (rebacked, corners rubbed). Provenance: an early reader (verses neatly numbered in ink) -- Fétil, Libraire, Paris (small printed ticket, dated in manuscript 18 July 1777) -- Boston University (booklabel; deaccession letter provided; this provenance for all items below). An uncommon edition of one of the most influential works in European literature. Apparently not in Adams, Mortimer or Brunet. EDIT16 2676.
ALCIATUS, Andreas (1492-1550). Emblemata. Lyons: Guilliaume Rouillé, 1548. 8° (186 x 122mm). Text and title all within woodcut borders, some of these signed 'PV' and 128 woodcut vignettes (short worm tracks in the index leaves affecting a few words, occasional marginal dampstain and light browning); cloth case. Contemporary limp vellum (soiled). Adams A-603; Brunet I, 148.
