A rare Dutch silver water kettle with burner on stand
Maker's mark of Peter Scheers, Nijmegen, possibly a misstruck E for 1750, the burner 1750
The compressed cylindrical body engraved with typical Louis Quinze motifs surrounding the hinged lid and the shaped spout, with shaped, swing, partly wooden handle and wooden finial, on circular pierced stand with three shaped and moulded scroll supports and plain burner

Lot Essay

Peter Scheers (1718-1772) was a leading silver smith in Nijmegen, see Nijmeegs Zilver 1400-1900 in het Nijmeegs Museum"Commanderie van Sint Jan", 15-10/27-11 1983. In 1746 he bought a house at the grote Markt in Nijmegen and was involved as a "gemeensman" in the government of the City. From 1747 untill 1749 he was one of the councelers of the Silver smith's Guild. In 1770 Peter Scheers and the maker Severijn Schiff were responsable as assay masters see illustration
