8o (168 x 107 mm). Arnoullet's sea-horse device (Baudrier 3) on title and author's portrait on verso, 510 small woodcuts in text by Clement Bussy. (Some light browning and staining). Contemporary vellum (discreet repairs to joints).
Second Lyons edition and first illustrated Lyons edition, and the FIRST USE OF THIS IMPORTANT WOODCUT SERIES commissioned from Clement Boussy by Arnoullet in 1547. It is a miniature version of the woodcuts in the Basel editions published by Isingrin. The series continued to be used by Arnoullet in his 1550 French and 1551 Latin editions of this same work, the 1549 and 1551 editions of Fuchs's Plantarum effigies, and 1550 and 1552 editions of Dioscorides.
