Ce dessin a fait partie d'un des deux albums de dessins de Giambattista Tiepolo intitulés Sole Figure per Soffitti aujourd'hui démantelés. Chaque feuille présentait un personnage assis en hauteur, jambes pendantes, le visage à demi caché et était souvent préparatoire pour des compositions plafonnantes: peintures ou fresques (G. Knox, Catalogue of the Tiepolo Drawings in the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, 1960, p. 5).
