Black Raku Ware, Edo period (18th century) by 6th-generation Raku master Sanyu (1685-1739)
Hand-modelled, cylindrical with high walls rising from a compressed and notched disc foot, applied with a matte black glaze
3 7/16in. (8.7cm.) high; 3 5/8in. (9.3cm.) diameter
Wood inner box signed, giving name and authenticated by Sen Soshitsu XI (Gengensai; 1810-1877), outer box signed and authenticated by Raku Kichizaemon XV (b. 1949), dated 1990
