Lot Essay

The same unusual underglaze blue border can be found above the foot of two other small wine cups, also with Kangxi marks, but of somewhat different shape. One not as deep and with its stand from the T.Y. Chao Collection sold at Sotheby's, Hong Kong, 19 May 1987, lot 267; the other with sides flaring to an everted rim illustrated in The Official Kiln Porcelain of the Chinese Qing Dynasty, Shanghai, 2003, p. 108.
