Comprising a teapot, sugar bowl and cream jug, the teapot with horn handle, all with part horn finials, chased with basket-weave ornament, on shaped wood stand with openwork frame, fitted with two ceramic tea-cups and saucers, the base with plaque engraved with presentation inscription, marked on bases
the stand 17. 3/8 in. (44.2cm.) wide
The inscription read 'PRESENTED TO HER ROYAL HIGHNESS PRINCESS MARINA DUCHESS OF KENT BY TUNKU ABDUL RAHMAN PUTRA PRIME MINISTER. MALAYSIA. OCT 1964'.

Lot Essay

Prince Abdul Rahman Putra (1903-1990) was Chief Minister of the Federation of Malaya in 1955 and became the Federation's first Prime Minister when the state was granted independence in 1957. He was seventh son and twentieth child of Sultan Abdul Hamid Halim Shah, 24th Sultan of Kedah (1881-1943).
