Lot Essay

The full-rigged ship Aberfoyle was built for Gavin Cowper of Glasgow by McMillans at Dumbarton in 1885. Registered at 1,661 tons gross (1,597 net) and measuring 259 feet in length with a 38 foot beam, she was her owner's only vessel. Sold to new owners in 1892 and again in 1898, she was still trading in 1908 but disappears from record soon afterwards.
