The British general cargo steamer Clan Farquhar was one of the extensive fleet belonging to Cayzer, Irvine & Co. commonly known as the Clan Line. Like many of her sisters, Clan Farquhar was built by Doxfords at Sunderland and was also one of their highly distinctive 'turret ships' in design and appearance. Launched in 1899,she was registered in Glasgow at 5,858 tons gross (3,757 net), measured 439 feet in length with a 52 foot beam and was engined by her builders. After less than twenty years service for her original owners, she was torpedoed and sunk off Benghazi, Libya, on 26th February 1917 when on passage from Calcutta to London with a general cargo.
