TWO CONTINENTAL ROCK CRYSTAL HAND-SEALS, ONE GOLD-MOUNTED
MID-19TH CENTURY
Tapering rock crystal seal of baluster form, the sides faceted, the cast gold domed-top and spreading base chased with scrolling foliage, waterleaf and c-scrolls on sablé ground, the neck of the base mount burnished, the carnelian matrix engraved with initials 'CA' surmounted with the motto 'Ense Totus Patriae de Cruce Deo.' and a coronet; together with a rock crystal seal of tapering faceted baluster form, the matrix engraved with cypher 'CA' centred with a duke's coronet
2 7/8 in. (73 mm.) high; 2 3/16 in. (55 mm.) high
The initials are probably those of Choiseul and Argenteau. (2)
