TWO CONTINENTAL GOLD-MOUNTED HARDSTONE HAND-SEALS
MID-19TH CENTURY
Tapering banded umber agate seal of baluster form, the sides and domed top faceted, the spreading cast sablé gold base chased with scrolling foliage, the bloodstone matrix engraved with a coat-of-arms; together with a bloodstone seal of similar form, the gold matrix engraved with two coats-of-arms accolé
2¾ in. (70 mm.) high; 2 9/16 in. (65 mm.) high, respectively
The arms on the umber agate seal are those of Mercy-Argenteau; the arms on the bloodstone seal are those of Choiseul-Praslin accolé with another. (2)
