A ROMAN BONE KNIFE HANDLE
CIRCA 2ND-3RD CENTURY A.D.
In the form of a Thraex gladiator, armed with a visored crested helmet and a short curved dagger (sica), protected by a rectangular shield (parmula), a protective belt, padding along his arm and padding below greaves along his legs, the now-missing blade originally folded into the lower end of the shield
