A Porcelain Cup And Saucer
by the Batenin Factory, St Petersburg, circa 1825
Bulbous, on conforming foot and with flared flat rim, the body decorated with a continuous cartouche depicting a multi-coloured landscape scene with a lake, a palace with a white Russian flag on a flagpole situated by the lake, a mooring wall and a bridge which joins the palace with the shore, with figures in the foreground, the upper and lower borders of the body with gilt ciselé, the inside three-quarters gilt, the handle with gilt relief, the circular saucer fully gilded with the exception of the white ground base with an inscription in French Histoire et Cartouche, apparently unmarked
Cup 4¼ in. (10/9 cm.) high with handle, saucer 5 5/8 in. (14.3 cm) diameter (2)
