3 parts in one volume, oblong 2o (423 x 555 mm). 2 letterpress titles, 2 engraved titles, hand-colored stipple-engraved plate of the "Native Judges," a portrait of Tippoo Sultan and 64 FINE HAND-COLORED AQUATINT VIEWS (some occasional light offsetting, minor darkening to margins). Original boards, upper cover with letterpress triangular title label, uncut (neatly rebacked with morocco spine and corners). Provenance: Sir Edward B. Barker (bookplate).
FIRST EDITION. A FINE COPY. This work was originally issued in 17 parts, then on completion of the parts issue was offered either in 2 volumes at 10 guineas per volume, or, as here, in a single volume at 20 guineas. "These three works are sometimes found separately and sometimes together, as is indicated by the preface ... it is probable that at different times Orme made up copies in one or two volumes, and in different styles."
