An Unusual Green Schist Gable with Buddha and Animals
Gandhara, 2nd/3rd century
Buddha seated in dhyanasana in the central niche and backed by a halo, a niche on either side each with a lotus, all over a fire altar flanked by the Buddha's footprints, each incised with a chakra and triratna and further flanked by elephants with bowed heads, all under two pairs of confronted lions, the edges adorned with bands of floral and dentillated motifs
