Edo period (17th century), helmet signed Masanobu
The dark brown-lacquered sixty-plate helmet with gilt butterfly maedate (forecrest), the mabizashi (brim) covered with dyed leather, two-tiered shikoro (neck guard) of lacquered kittsukezane, the black-lacquered Hineno fukigaeshi with gold-lacquered peony mon, iron menpo with detachable nose, full drooping moustache, double-tier yodaregake (bib) of matching kittsukezane, the gomai do (five-section cuirass) of gold-lacquered kittsukezane with alternating white and orange bands of kebiki odoshi (close lacing), matching kosode (inner shoulder pieces), sode (shoulder guards), and seven-section kusazuri (skirt), the watagami (shoulder suspension straps) with gilt peony mon, black-lacquered shino-gote (splinted armored sleeves) on blue silk richly embroidered with dragons and phoenixes in gold and colors, matching shino haidate (thigh guard), shino suneate (splinted leg guards)
