Lot Essay

For the treatment of the maenad, cf. J. D. Beazley, Attic Red-Figure Vase-Painters, Oxford, 1963, p. 202, no. 76. Beazley makes a comparison between a lekythos with Dionysos, in the Manner of the Berlin Painter, and this nolan amphora, cf. J. D. Beazley, Paralipomenia. Additions to Attic Black-Figure Vase-Painters and to Attic Red-Figure Vase-Painters, Oxford, 1971, p. 346.
