Painted with a half-length portrait of Queen Caroline flanked by the initials QC within concentric circles and blue a band border

Lot Essay

Although it has been suggested that this could represent Charlotte, consort of George III and Princess of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, the fashion for concentric circle borders, examples of which have been excavated at Vauxhall, had passed by then. The iconography, especially of the dressing of the hair is not consistent with an attribution to Charlotte who wore her hair shorter and dressed upwards.
