AN UNUSUAL BRITISH NAVAL OFFICER'S SWORD
CIRCA 1820
With earlier Spanish double-edged broadsword blade engraved on each side within the broad fuller 'POR x MI x REY', gilt-brass hilt modelled on the British Pattern 1814 Household Cavalry officer dress sword with a half-basket formed of slender bars, some terminating with scrolls, supporting a large escutcheon bearing a fouled anchor with a crown above, lion's head pommel with the mane forming the grip-strap, and ivory grip with wire binding
