Lot Essay

Jan Albert de Grave succeeded his father as city-bell maker of Amsterdam. De Grave is recorded as citizen of Amsterdam in 1700. He died in 1729 making this mortar one the last produced.
Wittop Koning mentions this mortar, Wittop Koning I, p. 32 (WK II, p. 41).
