On gadrooned circular base, the lower part of the bowl with applied cut-card work, with moulded rim, marked inside the bowl

Lot Essay

A similar egg-cup with maker's mark also attributed to Claude Charpentier, Paris, 1687, was part of the Jourdan-Barry collection sold at Sotheby's Monaco, 5 December 1992, lot 83. Another similar egg-cup, Paris, circa 1670-1680, is illustrated in Les Grands Orfévres de Louis XIII à Charles X, Paris, 1965, p. 70. A further example, Paris, 1686, maker's mark CM, is illustrated in F. Dennis, Three Centuries of French Domestic Silver, New York, 1960, no. 234, p. 163.
