THE COLLECTION OF THE LATE MR. JILES BOON (lots 25-32, 128 and 142).
Jiles 'Jelle' Boon (1916 - 2009) married Cornelia Neeltje Witvliet in 1942, together they had four children. Just after World War II, Mr. Boon started working with the international trading company 'Van Velzen's Katoenmaatschappij' in Rotterdam, where he traded in cotton and later in coffee.
Jiles Boon developed a passion for art, art history and craftsmanship and became a passionate collector. After moving to Rhoon (near Rotterdam) and building his own villa in 1958 his collection subsequently grew. Over the years he became a frequent visitor of the International Auction houses and he loved to research his acquisitions and enjoyed to share his knowledge with others. His passion is reflected in his collection and a large part, including a fine collection of mortars, has been successfully sold in our Decorative Arts sale last September.
Other paintings of the Boon collection will be sold in our Impressionist & Modern Art sale of 17 November.
